Homemade Heating Pad

This year for Christmas my friend Deb made a gift basket containing {among other things} homemade heating pads for me, my husband and each of my kids. These heating pads are absolutely wonderful. They conform to any area you need to place them and are easy to make.

Materials needed:

  1. Long white tube socks
  2. Lentils, uncooked rice, buckwheat or tapioca pearls {this is your filler}
  3. Essential oil-the scent of your choice-such as lavender
  • Place your filler in a large bowl and toss with the oil.
  • Scoop the filler into your sock and tie off the end.

When you need your homemade heating pad place it in the microwave and heat on high. The amount of time will vary according to your microwave but mine is perfect after 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

If you need to wash your heating pad empty the contents, toss your sock in with the laundry and reuse. I pulled a muscle in my back a few weeks ago and anytime the pain becomes annoying I heat up my pad and place it on my back and it works wonders.

I prefer mine because it is cheap inexpensive and easy to make. No needle, thread or special fabric needed and you can make these for every member of your family in less than 5 minutes each.
